About the Race...

Overview
The Stone Ridge 5K Race for Education will start at 9AM on October 17th, 2009... rain or shine!  The Kids 1K Fun Run will begin at 8:30am, followed by the Stone Ridge 5K at 9:00am.  This is a family-friendly event with abundant prizes and a flat, fast course, making it ideal for everyone, including walkers.  Join us as we raise money for the Dulles South area schools.

Charity Beneficiary
This event is designed to benefit the local public schools in the Dulles South area of Loudoun County, including Pinebrook Elementary, Little River Elementary, Arcola Elementary, Aldie Elementary, Hutchison Elementary, Liberty Elementary, Mercer Middle School and Freedom High School. The Loudoun County school system has added 3,000 students per year for the past 11 years, and as new schools have opened, infrastructure needs often need to wait for funding to catch up.  We hope to engage your support for a very worthwhile cause as we help supplement the learning environment in our children’s schools.

Timing and Scoring
We utilize the ChronoTrack timing system, which uses an RFID tag to record your exact start and stop times. The tag uses a tiny computer “Chip” and must be tied to runners’ shoelaces, and records the exact time a runner crosses both the start and finish line, resulting in a net or “Chip” time.  Overall awards will be based on “clock time” and age group awards will be based on “Chip time”.  You must wear your ChronoTrack D-tag on your shoe and cross the mats at the start and finish to be scored.

As a former ChampionChip race, we can tell you that the greatest benefit to this new system is that the D-tags are disposable, meaning you won't have to stop after the race to remove and return them.  Simply remove them at your leisure and throw them away.  Tag issuance is also much easier as it will be attached to your bib which you will receive at packet pickup.  Check out this video preview to see how easy this will be come race day:

This system has some great credentials with local use at the Leesburg 10K/20K and on the big stage with the Los Angeles Marathon.  For more information please visit http://www.runwashington.com/other/chronotracksindex.html
